Vetafarm Rabbit Origins is a veterinarian-formulated pellet made from locally grown ingredients, built around fescue hay with chicory root included to support gut flora. It’s a uniform pellet rather than a muesli-style mix, and that’s a deliberate design choice: a rabbit can’t pick the tasty bits out of a pellet and leave the rest, so the balanced formula you measured out is the balanced formula it actually eats.

How to feed
Provide Rabbit Origins alongside unlimited hay and fresh drinking water. Go easy on fruit and sugary treats, which can upset digestive balance. If you’re switching from another feed, change over gradually across a week or so — a rabbit’s gut does not appreciate abrupt dietary changes.
Good to know: pellets are the smallest part of the diet
The most common feeding mistake we see is a bowl of pellets left permanently topped up. A rabbit that can eat pellets all day will eat fewer pellets’ worth of hay — and hay is what keeps the gut moving and the molars worn down. Measure the daily pellet ration, put it out once, and let hay be the thing that’s always available. A rabbit should be eating a volume of hay roughly the size of its own body every day.
Common questions
Is this suitable for young rabbits as well as adults?
It’s formulated as a complete diet for rabbits across life stages, including growing, adult and breeding rabbits. A young rabbit will also benefit from lucerne hay, which is higher in protein and calcium than grass hay.
What does the chicory root do?
It’s included to support gut flora and healthy digestion — which, in an animal that depends entirely on hindgut fermentation, is not a small thing.
Why a pellet instead of a mix?
A mix is more interesting to eat, but rabbits pick out their favourites and leave the fibrous parts behind, which unbalances the diet. A uniform pellet removes that possibility.
