Back-2-Nature by Fibrecycle is a bedding and litter made from 99% recycled paper, pressed into ridged flat pellets. Two things set it apart from loose shavings. It’s low in dust, which matters for animals with small, sensitive airways — guinea pigs especially are prone to respiratory trouble. And because the pellets are flat rather than round, they don’t roll and shift underfoot, giving a stable surface that’s easier on delicate paws and hocks.

How to use
Spread it across the base of the enclosure in a 2–4cm layer. Spot-clean the toilet corner regularly and change the bedding out before it gets damp through. After use it can be composted — check your local council’s guidelines on what they accept.
Australian conditions: dry bedding is a flystrike issue
This is the one thing we’d most want an Australian rabbit owner to take away. In the warm months, damp, soiled bedding attracts flies, and flies laying eggs on a rabbit with a dirty back end causes flystrike — which can go from unnoticed to life-threatening within a day or two. Highly absorbent bedding helps because it pulls moisture away from the surface rather than holding it against your rabbit. But bedding is only half the job: through summer, check your rabbit’s rear end every single day, and get a soiled or damp rabbit cleaned and dried straight away.
Common questions
Can I use it as litter in a litter tray as well as bedding?
Yes — it works as both bedding and litter, which is convenient if you’re litter-training a house rabbit.
How often should I change it?
Spot-clean the wet patches often, and do a full change before the layer is damp through. There’s no universal schedule — it depends on how many animals you have and how big the enclosure is. In hot, humid weather, err on the side of changing it more often.
Is it safe if my rabbit eats some?
It’s plain recycled paper, sterile at manufacture and free of the aromatic oils that make some untreated softwood shavings a concern. Small pets do nibble their bedding; paper pellets are a sensible choice for that reason.
