Why nuggets, not muesli?
Muesli-style rabbit mixes let rabbits selectively feed — they eat the sweet flakes and leave the fibre pellets. Over time that causes dental disease and gut stasis, the two most common reasons rabbits end up at the vet. Burgess Excel is an all-in-one nugget: every piece is the same, so there is nothing to pick out.
What’s in it
- Beneficial fibre to keep the gut moving and teeth worn down naturally
- Prebiotics for digestive health
- No added sugars
- Made in the UK by Burgess, the brand most recommended by UK vets
Choosing a formula
- Adult with Mint — the standard daily food for healthy adult rabbits (12 weeks – 4 years)
- Indoor — for house rabbits, with added vitamin D (indoor rabbits get less sunlight)
- Junior & Dwarf with Mint — higher protein for growing rabbits and small breeds
- Nature’s Blend — with added herbs and flowers for fussy eaters
- Mature with Cranberry & Thyme — for rabbits over 4 years
Feeding
Nuggets are a supplement to hay, not a replacement. Around 85–90% of your rabbit’s diet should be good-quality hay, always available. Feed roughly 25–50g of nuggets per kg of body weight per day, plus fresh greens.
Why you won’t find this at the big chains
Burgess and bunnyNature are distributed in Australia exclusively to independent specialist retailers — the large chains cannot stock them. If you’ve been buying your rabbit’s food from a big-box pet store, this is a genuine step up, and this is one of the few places in Australia you can get it.
