The PipSqueak Salt Lickstone is a small mineral block made from sodium chloride, sized for a rabbit or guinea pig cage and supplied with a mount so it clips to the bars rather than rolling around in the bedding. Most small pets take to it as much for something to do as for the salt itself.
Features
- Made from food-grade sodium chloride
- Supplies sodium and trace minerals
- Includes a simple cage mount for secure placement
- Compact size suited to rabbits and guinea pigs
- Satisfies natural licking and gnawing behaviour
Good to know: this is a nice-to-have, not a must-have
We’d rather tell you this than oversell it. A rabbit or guinea pig eating unlimited grass hay and a good-quality pellet is generally getting the sodium it needs already — a lick stone is not a nutritional rescue for a poor diet. What it genuinely does offer is enrichment: something new to investigate, lick and gnaw at in an enclosure that is otherwise the same every day. Treat it as a boredom-breaker with a mineral bonus, and keep fresh water available at all times.
How to use
Clip the stone into the mount and fix it to the side of the enclosure at a height your pet can reach comfortably. Replace it once it has worn down to a small nub.
Common questions
Can my rabbit overdo it on salt?
Rabbits and guinea pigs self-regulate a lick stone reasonably well provided they always have clean water in front of them. If you notice yours attacking it constantly, that’s worth mentioning to your vet rather than ignoring.
How long does one last?
That depends entirely on how enthusiastic your pet is. Check it now and again and swap it out when it gets small enough to be a choking risk.
